Sponsorship packages
One way to make this newsletter sustainable was to launch “Paid Membership” - allowing subscribers to support the newsletter by upgrading to paid while keeping the newsletter free.
I am launching a second way to make this newsletter sustainable: Sponsorship Packages.
Why choose to work with Short Ruby News
This platform is an ideal opportunity to promote a project, product, or community if it caters to the target audience of Short Ruby ▶ Ruby developers.
In addition, by sponsoring this newsletter, you are making a valuable contribution to the Ruby community. It is important to note that the Ruby community comprises various initiatives, and Short Ruby is just one of many. Supporting multiple initiatives is essential for the overall health and growth of the ecosystem.
I am excited to work on other initiatives that I have in mind. I recently took over rubyandrails.info, which I plan to integrate with Short Ruby to assist more people in learning Ruby. Additionally, I have several other ideas that I hope to develop under the Short Ruby concept.
Short Ruby Newsletter stats
Here are the current stats (30 August 2024):
Total number of free subscribers: 5254
Open rates: somewhere between 45% and 50%
Subscribers are located all around the world:
Sponsorship Packages
There are three places that I can offer to place the content in each edition:
Main content at $270 per edition
Additional content at $200 per edition
And in case you want more, there are two extra sponsorship packages:
Supporter package at $600 per edition - includes main content + additional content + text insertion + mention visible at the top - “Edition sponsored by Your Company”)
Branding package at $750 per edition - includes everything in Supporter package + mentions in all social media channels: Twitter (personal and ShortRuby), Mastodon, and Linkedin
The promotional content will only be sent to free subscribers. The paid subscribers will not receive any of the promo content.
The content will be marked visible as being sponsored or promotional.
If you are interested in any package or have something else in mind and would like to discuss, please send an email at [email protected]
Main content
A text and an image will be included in-between table of contents and the next section. The image will link to a URL that you choose.
The content will be identified as "promo" or "sponsor" and will be displayed accordingly. Here's an example of where and how it may appear:
The text should be brief and the image should have an aspect ratio of 1.5 to 2. It is recommended to use clean, straightforward content without distracting images or animations.
The price for including this in one edition is $270 per edition
Additional content
A text and an image will be included somewhere inside “All about Code and Ruby” section in the first part. Usually, after at least 2-3 posts. The image will link to a URL that you choose.
The text should be brief and the image should have an aspect ratio of 1.5 to 2. It is recommended to use clean, straightforward content without distracting images or animations.
The price for including this in one edition is $200 per edition
Text Insertion
Test insertion means:
A text of 1 to 3 lines will be included between “All about Code and Ruby” and “Gems, libraries and updates”. It can include a small text and a CTA where to click to see more details.
This is part of the Supporter or Branding Package but cannot be bought alone.
Supporter package
This means that you will get all promo spots in the newsletter (main + additional + job), and at the beginning of the newsletter (in both email and web), we will add something like this: "
Powered by the generosity of X
The wording can be agreed upon together. So far, I lean into using “Powered by the generosity of <company>” or “Our featured sponsor for this edition is” or “This issue is made possible by”.
The row will have a link to your company website or product.
The price for this is $600 per edition
Branding Package
This will include everything from the Supporter tier and will also bring it:
One mention on each medial social channel I own when I publish the newsletter
Will be phrase something like: “This edition was sponsored by X” with a tag to your company profile/page where that exists or a link to your website if the social media handle is not available
Channels:
Personal Twitter account: twitter.com/lucianghinda (approx. 3200 followers)
Short Ruby Twitter account: twitter.com/shortrubynews (approx. 1277 followers)
Personal mastodon account: ruby.social/@lucian (approx. 756 followers)
Personal Linkedin account: linkedin.com/in/lucianghinda (approx. 4074 followers)
The price for this is $750 per edition.
What can be promoted on Short Ruby News
Please note that sponsoring the newsletter will not impact or influence the content that I choose to include. The sponsorship is solely limited to the specific items outlined in each package.
What can be promoted in the newsletter:
Products/Companies/Services that could be interesting for a Ruby developer
I think it fits very well to promote developer tools, community tools, open source projects, gems and engines, and anything that can support a developer in their day-to-day life or in their learning path.
Of course, a big category is learning resources, specifically if they are about the developer journey and more so if they are about Ruby.
I also would like to promote products or services built with Ruby.
What cannot be promoted in the newsletter:
I reserve the right to say No to anything that does not fit how I see the newsletter.
I will not include products or services that are scams, exploiting their users, enabling or supporting hate or discrimination, and in general, anything that seems divisive or could be interpreted this way. I want to focus on code and developers.
That’s it! If any of the packages are interesting to you or you have other ideas about how we can collaborate, please write me an email at [email protected]
