Three Ruby Links #8
If I were to recommend three Ruby articles published last week to read, here is what I would recommend.
If I were to recommend three articles published last week to read, here is what I would recommend:
1️⃣ “Low-poly image generation using evolutionary algorithms in Ruby” by Thomas Countz
Excerpt from “Low-poly image generation using evolutionary algorithms in Ruby” by Thomas Countz
Thomas presents a step-by-step guide about creating a low-poly version of the Ruby logo using evolutionary algorithms and Ruby tail call optimizations. This is a perfect and well-documented example of using Ruby outside web apps and seeing the expressiveness of Ruby while implementing evolutionary algorithms.
2️⃣ “Poking around PostgreSQL full-text search: a beginners primer” by Rémi Mercier
Excerpt from “Poking around PostgreSQL full-text search: a beginners primer” by Rémi Mercier
While this is not specific to Ruby or Rails, I like Remi’s exploration of how to do full-text searches using PostgreSQL capabilities. It is an easy-to-follow exploration, where he shows queries, explains them, and then moves on to try a different approach. Great article for beginners and but also for anyone who wants to have a bit of SQL fun and refresh their memory.
3️⃣ “4 tips when getting started with Hotwire” by Joël Quenneville
Excerpt from “4 tips when getting started with Hotwire” by Joël Quenneville
This is a great article about how to do code design when implementing features with Rails and Hotwire. Joël offers clear advice about how to approach implementing a feature with Hotwire and what is the path of least resistance that will offer the simplest yet effective way to build maintainable web apps.
